About Myself

My name is Tim Drinkard, and I am originally from Oskaloosa, Kansas. I have served the Lord in various capacities over the last fifteen years. This has included preaching in nursing homes, starting two rescue mission ministries in Lawrence, KS, and Topeka, KS, bus ministries, local church ministries, etc. In 2009, after the Lord called me into the ministry, I began preparing for the mission field with doctrinal studies online through Salt Lake Baptist College. However, I consider my highest education to have been gained in my duration on the mission field. For the last five and a half years, I have been a missionary in the country of Panamá among the indigenous group called the Emberá People, located at the edge of the Daríen Jungle in the southeastern part of the country near Colombia. By God's amazing grace, I was able to start the first ever autonomous, indigenous, self-supporting Baptist church among Emberá people who have been in that region for over 800 years. This was also the first ever autonomous Baptist Church in the history of the Daríén Province since Panamá became a nation in 1903. On February 13, 2022, the Darién Independent Baptist Church was born as it was handed over to an indigenous Pastor of the Emberá People, Pastor Chango Casceras.

During the church planting process, I also started two major refugee camp ministries. One located on the side of the country closest to Colombia in the Darién jungle, and the other located near the border of Costa Rica, in the old training camp of the former dictator Manuel Noriega. The refugee ministry in the Daríén jungle is still going on today. This area of Panamá is infamous for narcotics trafficking and human trafficking. It is still a "do not travel" zone, according to the U.S. Embassy.

By God's grace, in 2020, I witnessed an outpouring of the Holy Spirit, particularly among the refugees from Cameroon, Africa, in which hundreds and hundreds came to Christ in the camps. The Lord gave me the opportunity to be the first missionary/pastor in the country to have been granted full access by the government through the National Director of Immigration to these camps. This amazing opportunity afforded me the ability to preach and distribute humanitarian aid at my disposal in any of the camps in the country at that time. I was able to consistently distribute the gospel in eleven different languages, and by God's amazing grace, this work is still being carried out today, and many are still coming to Christ deep in the jungle through the labor of the Daríen Independent Baptist Church, under the care and guidance of Pastor Chango Casceres.

OUR VISION

NEW DIRECTION to Portland, Oregon

In 2018 while visiting family in the Northwest, I was passing through Portland going into Vancouver and stopped at a car wash. It was there I met a young homeless man named Philip who was from Ukraine.  After speaking with him about the Lord, Philip bowed his head and heart and received Christ as his Savior.

Several weeks later I returned to Panama to continue the ministry. It was during some quiet time with the Lord that God brought Philip to mind and called me to serve Him in Portland, Oregon.

For over four years I often wondered how I could have two distinct callings to two places so far apart. One to Panamá, and the other to Portland. That question was finally settled while I was home on furlough. The Lord demonstrated to me that I had finished what He called me to do in Panama and now it was time to make the transition to the Portland area.

Statement of Faith

Portland Ministry

A recent poll indicates nearly 62% of Portland's 2.2 million metro population are not affiliated with any church, making Portland one of the least religious cities in the United States. In addition to this, the Portland crime rates are 204.4% higher than the national average. Violent crime consists of murder, rape, robbery and assault, while property crimes include burglary, theft and vehicle theft. There was a total of 4733 violent crimes in Portland which is 103.1% higher than the national average, and there were a total of 39852 property crimes, which is 223.6% higher than average. This places the city among the worst 10% of all U.S. cities that reported crime. Regrettably, the likelihood of falling victim to property crime in Portland stands at 1 in 16.

Early in 2023, I was sent out of Pocatello Baptist Church as a church planter to Portland, Oregon, and in April of 2023, the work began here in NE Portland. The Lord has placed me a block and a half west from the Centennial neighborhood which according to living-inportland.com is the worst neighborhood in the Portland metro area, and two blocks North of the Powellhurst neighborhood which is the second most dangerous neighborhood due to the high numbers of homeless camps.

During my survey, I also started a street outreach ministry to the homeless population here in NE Portland. Of all major US cities, the Portland area has the highest percentage of people experiencing homelessness. In addition to this, the opioid crisis has skyrocketed in recent years and just in the month of May alone, first responders were called to just over one thousand overdoses across the city, more than two hundred every week. Earlier this year, the governor and local leaders declared a three-month state of emergency for Portland due to the fentanyl crisis. Right now, I am in the process of distributing backpacks with hygiene items, Bibles, and gospel tracts. By God’s grace, so far I have witnessed seven people come to Christ on the streets here in NE Portland.
